WTF: Trump’s Lawyer Makes Stunningly Ignorant Defense Of Donald’s Tweets

Earlier this week, crucial information came out about former National Security Officer, Michael Flynn, and President Trump of course decided he needed to set his record straight (aka adamantly lie about his record) over Twitter.  The New York Times reported on Friday that Flynn is officially pleading guilty to lying to the FBI about conversations he had with a Russian ambassador last year.  Flynn said he would cooperate with the Russia investigation, making him “the first senior White House official to cut a cooperation deal in the special counsel’s wide-ranging inquiry into election interference,” the Times reports.

In true Donald Trump fashion, the president tweeted up a storm in reaction to the news, instead of holding an official press conference.  Trump tweeted:

‘I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!’

Not only did Trump try to clear his own record, but even seemingly tried to justify and underplay Flynn’s actions.  The president sent out a series of a tweet against his 2016 political opponent Hillary Clinton in a sad attempt to deflect attention to her.  Trump wrote:

‘So General Flynn lies to the FBI and his life is destroyed, while Crooked Hillary Clinton, on that now famous FBI holiday “interrogation” with no swearing in and no recording, lies many times…and nothing happens to her? Rigged system, or just a double standard?’

Trump also tweeted:

‘Many people in our Country are asking what the “Justice” Department is going to do about the fact that totally Crooked Hillary, AFTER receiving a subpoena from the United States Congress, deleted and “acid washed” 33,000 Emails? No justice!’

The president’s tweeting dumpster fire did not stop there.  He turned his attention to former Director of the FBI, James Comey, calling him a liar over Twitter.  Trump claimed he “never asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn,” and summed up the new allegations against him as “more Fake News covering another Comey lie!”

As the tweets display, President Trump continues to refuse to take responsibility for his actions.  That’s why it is not at all surprising that the president’s team is now trying to say that Trump’s lawyer crafted the tweets. According to ABC News, Donald Trump’s lawyer, John Dowd, told reporters that he had written the president’s tweets.

The Washington Post also reported last night that Trump officials claim:

‘Trump’s lawyer John Dowd drafted the president’s tweet, according to two people familiar with the twitter message. Its authorship could reduce how significantly it communicates anything about when the president knew that Flynn had lied to the FBI, but also raises questions about the public relations strategy of the president’s chief lawyer.’

Trump officials called the tweets “sloppy and unfortunate,” though this would unquestionably follow suit in the style of the president of the United States.

Regardless of authorship, the tweets are incredibly alarming.  The president’s request that the FBI go easy on Flynn paves way for speculation that Trump himself may need the FBI to go easy on him in the future.
