With the recent news that former national security adviser Gen. Michael Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI after a sweet deal was made with them for his cooperation with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, we can imagine Donald Trump is feeling lonely. Some of his most loyal supporters are bailing; however, he still has a faithful old kook to walk by his side in former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich appeared on Fox News and went off on a tangent talking about the underlying corruption and dishonesty in Washington. However, he didn’t note that the corruption, based on the evidence, is really centered in the White House. He simply blamed the FBI, Hillary Clinton, and anything else that would make a good conspiracy bedtime story.
‘You take everything that happened with Hillary Clinton, the fact that they deliberately interviewed her without putting her under oath, and you take everything she did, and it’s General Flynn, who served his country in uniform for 35 years, who is guilty?’
First off, we appreciate the men and women in uniform. However, there are plenty of soldiers and veterans who have committed crimes. Being in a uniform does not excuse them from their crime. If anything, you expect more from them. Secondly, what is up with the whole “But Hillary” complex? If anything, former FBI Director James Comey helped Trump win the election by announcing only a few short weeks before election day that they were reopening the investigation into her emails.
The American people will probably never know if there were mistakes made during the Clinton investigation. However, that doesn’t mean the FBI should shortchange any investigations in the future or give free passes to anyone. Constantly going back and pointing at Clinton complaining she didn’t get in trouble is the equivalent of a child being mad at their parent for punishing them when their friend’s parent didn’t punish the friend for the same broken rule. Grow up Republicans. Grow up Newt.
The FBI doing their job, no matter how much you don’t like it, doesn’t mean they are corrupt. However, Gingrich seems to think that way.
‘I think it is a sad day for America when the Federal Bureau of Investigation allows itself to be this corrupt. I cannot imagine that any American believes that if the same standard had been applied to Hillary Clinton, that she wouldn’t have been found guilty, over and over and over. But it wasn’t the same standard, and we now know why. You have members of the FBI who are actively anti-Trump, actively pro-Hillary.’
Trump recently made several remarks about the loss of integrity in the FBI in several tweets at the beginning of December. In response, the FBIAA responded saying such criticism of FBI agents was simply untrue.
