Despite the fact it’s beyond obvious Donald Trump is not a smart man (and doesn’t know what love is), he somehow got elected president by the people of the United States. It’s also been established that his children aren’t the brightest in the world, either. That would be okay if they didn’t try to present themselves as being saviors of the free world when they so obviously fail at some of the most basic tasks – you know, like filling out an absentee voter form.
The New York Daily News reported Monday that the Trumps, specifically Melania, Ivanka, and husband Jared Kushner failed to fill out their absentee ballot forms correctly, which disqualified their votes in the New York City mayoral election.
At issue with Melania’s form was the fact that she did not sign the envelope the ballot was placed in. The instructions for the process clearly states:
‘After making your votes on the ballot, fold the ballot and put it in a smaller envelope. Sign and date the back of the envelope. Seal the envelope and put it in the larger envelope that is addressed to the Board of Elections. Mail or deliver your ballot to your borough Board of Elections office.’
Also, if you look closely at her form, you’ll see that in the box asking for the county she lives in, she wrote, “USA.”
Now, Ivanka’s form was actually filled out correctly. The problem was she mailed it on Election Day, which is obviously a bit too late to submit an absentee ballot. As for Jared’s? He didn’t bother.
What’s so ironic about this is the fact that Trump is obviously not a Bill de Blasio fan, who won the mayorship easily. Had the race actually been close, however, the issue of their absentee ballots being completely discarded would be a big deal.
The New York Daily News did report that the Board of Elections said that Trump’s form was filled out fine; however, the news outlet noticed an error the Board of Elections missed, and it could be considered a pretty big error. Trump’s birthday is in June. However, his form said his birthday was in July.
It’s not been reported yet if that error will cause his vote to be discarded or not. However, it’s still a pretty egregious error.
Let’s all take this and use it as a very important lesson. If we want to take back seats in Congress, the White House, and positions at the state level, there are many things we can and should do. One of those things is making sure we know how to fill out our forms and the deadlines that are in place. If you know you’ll need to fill out an absentee form, read the directions carefully and follow them all. Double check it and then triple check it. If you know someone who may need help with filling out their form, pitch in! God knows the Trumps needed someone to help them.
Though New York City was an easy win for Democrats, there will be close races in 2018 and 2020, and Democrats cannot afford to lose one vote in some of them.
