Trump’s controversial Muslim ban angered many Americans whose family members would be unable to travel to see their loved ones and triggered numerous criticism over religious freedom by Muslim Americans. As a result of Trump’s ignorance, racism, and xenophobia, other countries are now banning him – and him alone – from traveling to their part of the world.
MSN reported on Friday that:
‘Amid a debate in Britain over whether President Trump’s invitation to visit the country should be rescinded over his inflammatory tweets, officials in the London borough of Greenwich took pre-emptive action: If the visit goes ahead, the president will not be welcome there.’
The decision came after President Trump retweeted fake videos originally sent out on social media by the deputy leader of England’s white nationalist organization Britain First, Jayda Fransen. Not only were the tweets extremely insulting to Muslims and anti-racists in the U.S., they were highly offensive to the people in London so affected by the Britain First’s aggressive anti-Muslim stance.
The videos were eventually flagged on Twitter on Fransen’s account as “sensitive material,” although they remain visible without a warning on Trump’s. Fransen was found guilty by a British court of “religiously aggravated harassment” in November of 2016 for ripping a Muslim woman’s hijab off her head in front of the woman’s children. She received a fine for her actions.
A spokesman for Britain’s Prime Minister, Theresa May, condemned Trump’s retweet of the videos, saying:
‘Britain First seeks to divide communities through their use of hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions. British people overwhelmingly reject the prejudiced rhetoric of the far-right, which is the antithesis of the values that this country represents — decency, tolerance and respect.’
Trump responded to the criticism in true Trump fashion by throwing insults and dismissing anyone who doesn’t agree with the xenophobic stance so important in holding onto his racist base.
Considering that “we are doing just fine!” it seems that a Muslim ban wouldn’t be necessary, or that those calling Trump out for his unconstitutional religious bans are all just confused. Either way, Trump is convinced that he’s the only one who knows anything and everyone else is just too stupid or too anti-Trump to understand.
Other state leaders have called for Trump to be banned from making state visits to England, including the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, a Muslim man.
‘After this latest incident, it is increasingly clear that any official visit at all from President Trump to Britain would not be welcomed.’
While it’s an unsettling thought that U.S. allies are uncomfortable with the idea of the president visiting their countries, it is also difficult to blame them. The majority of Americans did not elect this president and an even larger majority disapprove of his performance in the White House. While Trump spent his first year in office unable to pass any major piece of legislation, he did finally see pieces of his disgusting Muslim ban approved by the Supreme Court.
After the disastrous first rollout of that ban, it’s no wonder other countries are backing away from U.S. policies and its leader.
