A recent terror attack in New York City left everyone on heightened watch after a man detonated a homemade pipe bomb on December 12, 2017. It happened below Port Authority bus terminal and was an isolated incident. According to CNN:
‘Officials said the suspect, 27-year-old Akayed Ullah, pledged allegiance to ISIS and said he acted in response to Israeli actions in Gaza.’
On Wednesday, there was another similar terror attack in a large city. A blast ripped through a supermarket in St. Petersburg, Russia. The explosion injured ten people. According to Reuters:
‘The explosion was caused by a homemade bomb packed with pieces of metal with a force equivalent to 200 grammes of TNT, they said. They have opened a criminal case on the grounds of attempted murder.’
According to Russian media reports, the bomb had been hidden in a locker where shoppers leave their belongings in a branch of the Perekrestok supermarket chain. Alexander Klaus, the head of St Petersburg’s investigative committee reported:
‘All possible versions of what has happened are being worked on.
‘As of now, it has been established that 10 people were taken to the city’s hospitals with injuries. At the moment, the lives of those injured are not under threat.’
