The president has become infamous since taking office for his incessant disregard of the seriousness of his position. Instead of occupying himself with solving the problems that face the nation, he spends his time doing things like tweeting — and of course, golfing.
NBC estimates that the president has spent 91 of his first 347 days in office at one of his golf properties.
The White House has sought to downplay and ignore the president’s incessant golfing, which is especially ironic considering the fury with which Trump went after Barack Obama while the latter was still in office for his supposedly excessive golfing.
Trump was at his Florida Mar-a-Lago resort to close out the year, returning to Washington, D.C. on New Year’s Day. While there, he visited his golf course for seven straight days, even though he claimed on Christmas that it was “back to work” the following day.
A professional golfer who recently golfed with the president told CNN this Tuesday that — although he could not of course speak for the days when he wasn’t there — Trump did not seem to be “on duty” while out on the golf course. At times, the Trump Administration has insisted that the president was taking a “working vacation” when he went to one of his golf courses. Also, of course, there’s Trump’s Christmas Day tweet that seems to be fake news considering how much he golfed for the next week.
Taylor Funk told CNN’s New Day:
‘No, it was all golf. He was fully in the moment and with us. We played with two other guys and he was great with them too. I feel like whatever he’s doing, he’s going to be doing it a hundred percent at that time, and he wanted to play good golf and we wanted to watch him play good golf. It was a lot of fun because he actually did play some good golf.’
Check out the video below, featuring both Taylor Funk and his father Bill Funk, who also played with the president.
