Republicans really don’t want the truth to come out about the Trump administration’s dealings and possible collusion with the Russian government. If investigators come to the conclusion that Trump and his gang did collude with Russia, it would be a stain on the soul of the Republican Party that they’d never get rid of.
In an attempt to throw off investigators and subvert justice, The New York Times has reported that Senators Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina have issued a stunning criminal referral against former British spy Christopher Steele. They must know that the information he has would be damning to Donald Trump or else they wouldn’t be trying this stunt. The senators would have us believe that Steele lied to federal authorities about his contacts with reporters concerning the now infamous dossier he put together showing Russian interference into our election and the Trump campaign’s complicity, even alleging that Trump had contact with Russian prostitutes.
Steele, who has extensive contacts in Russia, was working for Fusion GPS, trying to ascertain if there was indeed Russian interference into our election and to what extent the Trump administration played in that interference. He compiled an explosive 35 page dossier outlining the many ways the Trump administration and Russia attempted to help Trump’s campaign and hurt the campaign of Hillary Clinton. The FBI considered Steele’s information important enough that they were considering bringing him on as a paid source. But Steele’s cover was blown when the dossier was released to the public and the FBI backed away from using him as that source.
The senators are simply on a fishing expedition, trying to gain access to witnesses and documents that Robert Mueller is using in his investigation. They’ll do anything and everything they can to stop, or at least slow down, the Russia investigation. They’re attempting to drag down credible witnesses and trying to disprove anything important they may have to say. The Republican Party would have us believe that they’re the most patriotic party in our government. But their attempts to hinder the Russia investigation prove otherwise. They have no problem covering up Trump’s collusion, as long as it will help their party remain in the majority of all three parts of our government. Things are not looking up for them however.
Public support for their party is waning and they see it clearly. They’re really concerned about Trump’s historically low approval rating and they’re afraid they’ll lose control of the House this fall, and possibly even the Senate too. Republicans have been shellacked recently in a few smaller elections and they even lost former Senator Jeff Sessions’ seat to Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama. The people have become fed up with Republicans’ false patriotism, their racism, and their small mindedness too. They’re tired of Republicans forcing their religious morals onto the populace at large. Apparently, Senators Grassley and Graham are concerned enough about the information Christopher Steele has on their boss that they’ll do everything in their power to shut him up. They’ll even go so far as to issue a bogus criminal referral against him, because Steele’s information could help bring the party down entirely.
Is Trump directing the senators to run interference in the Russia investigation, or are they doing it on their own, hoping to receive something in return? We may never know. But we’ll have to keep our eyes open and watch to see if they start receiving any special presidential treatment.
Senator Lindsey Graham. Apparently he’ll stoop to low levels to stop the Russia investigation.
Senator Graham’s fishing partner. They’ll stop at nothing to hinder Robert Mueller.
