President Trump prefers to surround himself with those who are completely sympathetic to his cause, no matter what baggage might come with them. Considering that, it’s unsurprising that conservative upstart Stephen Miller still has a job in the White House even in the face of his controversial alleged sympathy to virulent right wing causes.
This past week, Trump’s world was rocked by the publication of a book from Michael Wolff detailing life inside the Trump team and in the process spilling alleged incendiary secrets as to what’s gone on since the belligerent businessman rose to power. His book, called Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, has proven so potent that it’s blown open a rift between Donald Trump and Steve Bannon, although that rift — if the book is to be believed — may have been a long time coming.
On Sunday morning, Miller appeared on CNN and was grilled by Jake Tapper, but the appearance went so poorly that Tapper was eventually forced to end the interview seemingly early — although the president seemed to be pleased, tweeting a message in support of Miller after the interview.
‘Jake Tapper of Fake News CNN just got destroyed in his interview with Stephen Miller of the Trump Administration. Watch the hatred and unfairness of this CNN flunky!’
One of the president’s past tweetstorms was, in fact, a topic of conversation during Miller’s appearance on CNN.
In response to concerns about his mental health raised at least in part by Wolff’s book, Trump took to Twitter with a message for the world, claiming to be a “very stable genius.”
In light of these tweets, Miller commented, speaking to Tapper:
‘The president’s tweets absolutely reaffirm the plainspoken truth. A self made billionaire revolutionized reality tv and tapped into something magical that’s happening in the hearts of this country.’
When pressed as to what evidence he had for this “magic,” Miller commented to Tapper:
‘The people who you don’t connect with and understand, the people whose manufacturing jobs have left, who have been besieged by high crime communities, and who have been affected by a policy of uncontrolled immigration — those voices, those experiences don’t get covered on this network.’
In fact, contrary to Miller’s claims, CNN has interviewed Trump supporters over and over again.
That is not at all where the nonsense ended, however. At one point, Tapper attempted to pivot back into his original line of questioning, which didn’t include an invitation for Miller to just praise the president as he was doing, and Miller literally wouldn’t let him speak as if it was some sort of grade school shouting match. Tapper eventually simply hung his head and seemingly resigned himself to the fact that he wasn’t going to get to ask his questions.
After Miller kept babbling, Tapper eventually reminded him who was in charge in that situation, and, literally as he kept babbling, Tapper cut to commercial break, saying:
‘Okay, you’re not answering the questions. I get it. There’s one viewer that you care about right now and you’re being obsequious because you’re trying to please him. I’ve wasted enough of my viewers time.’
