The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards have proven to be a highly political event with celebrities making powerful statements both against Donald Trump and against sexual assault harassment in the entertainment industry.
Celebrities wore black to show solidarity with the #MeToo movement, and activists were present in the audience.
The most powerful speech of the night, however, came from the queen of daytime television, Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey was Being honored with the Cecile B. Demille Award. Not only did she touch on these highly sensitive topics, she brought down the house with the powerful and highly emotional message.
In reflecting on the impact of seeing Sidney Poitier receiving the Cecil B. de Mille Award, Oprah says that "it is not lost on me that at this moment there are some little girls watching as I am the first black woman to be given the same award." pic.twitter.com/SRZR5WTqpf
