Vice President Mike Pence and his wife say they are Christians and wear that badge proudly. Yet, the vice president stands between his religion and its beliefs and a very unchristian acting and speaking Donald Trump. Is Pence really a Christian?

The couple attended services at the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Largo, Maryland on Sunday. Pence was forced to sit as Pastor Dr. Maurice Watson lectured against Trump’s horrific and racists comments. The VP’s reaction was priceless.

The Prince George’s County pastor spoke about some of the most fundamental tenants of Christianity, WUSA9 reported:

‘I stand today as your Pastor to vehemently denounce and reject any such characterizations of The nations of Africa and of our brothers and sisters in Haiti.’

In a meeting at the White House last week, Trump made a callous, extremely crude, and demeaning comment about immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and African nations. He referred to them as “shithole countries,” and then he called his friends to brag about doing so.

Pastor Watson noted in his speech that his congregation had members from both Haiti and African nations. Then, he said that Trump’s comments were “hurtful” and “dehumanizing.” He said that the country must hold Trump accountable for those words.

At least Pence had the good grace to periodically become noticeably red-faced during the speech.

Nine vice presidents have become president after the president they served under either died or resigned. That gives Pence a one in five chance to become president of these United States – at least.

At the GOP 2016 convention, the vice president said:

‘I am a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.’

Yet, many of Pence’s actions are far from Christ-like, such as standing quietly while Trump slanders people of color. When the vice president was governor of Indiana, he refused $80 million in federal pre-K funding, according to Rolling Stone. The publication referred to the man a heartbeat away from the presidency as “radical.”

As governor, he invited Democrats over to the mansion for dinner. A few showed, and they told that at one point, Pence yelled:

‘Mother, Mother, who prepared our meal this evening? Mother, Mother, whose china are we eating on?’

That is right. He referred to his wife as “Mother.”

Pence grew up as a Catholic and served as an altar boy. Yet, he converted to Evangelical Christianity when he married his wife – or Mother. As president of the conservative think tank, Indiana Policy Review Foundation, he wrote:

‘Global warming is a myth. … There, I said it….(and) Despite the hysteria from the political class and the media, smoking doesn’t kill.’

Then-governor Pence joined the Indiana Family Institute as a board member. According to Rolling Stone, he became a member of:

‘The Indiana Family Institute, an anti-abortion, anti-gay organization that pronounced the protest movement that formed after the brutal 1998 murder of gay teen Matthew Shepard to be homosexual-activist “propaganda.”‘

Back at the Watson church, the pastor finished and members of the congregation stood as a show of support for Watson’s message.

The historically black church established itself in 1864, the year following President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, according to its webpage.
