Trump Reveals Why He Wants Memo Released & The Reason Has Bob Mueller On Fire

The president seems to be again incriminating himself in the case of the still very much in force obstruction of justice allegations against him. In the past, he’s done so through such means as abruptly firing FBI Director James Comey, who was leading the Russia investigation when he still had a job.

This time, CNN is reporting that the president is — surprise surprise — not interested in getting the “Nunes memo” released because of some concern with fixing real errors at the Justice Department. Rather, according sources speaking to CNN, Trump wants the memo released because he believes that it will discredit Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into his team.

Mueller’s investigation has plagued the president since it kicked off, with the former FBI Director having so far brought charges against four of his former associates.

Through it all, the president has flailed to the point of making it hard not to see him as guilty, although some have suggested that it’s not the collusion allegations that he’s really worried about. Rather, some have said, Trump is likely concerned with Mueller’s team uncovering financial crimes on his part. It’s an under-reported fact that one of the president’s casinos — the Trump Taj Mahal — was at one time fined heavily by the government for failing to take the required anti-money laundering precautions.

Are these, then, the sort of charges Trump is worried about? These are the sorts of charges that already brought down two of the four to face action from Mueller’s team, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and his associate Rick Gates.

Trump is certainly worried about something. If he’s trying to convince the world of his innocence he is and pretty much always has been doing a really bad job.

The “Nunes memo,” which Trump believes will discredit the Mueller investigation, was produced by controversial House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, who has long been on the president’s side. Nunes — at essentially the president’s urging — pursued a sham investigation into alleged abuses of investigative power at the DOJ. The four page memo at the center of the controversy is the result of this investigation.

On Wednesday, as the latest episode in the ongoing controversy over whether or not to release the memo, the FBI issued a public statement asserting its already reported private opposition to the allegedly wildly biased and exaggerated document’s release.

CNN reports that according to its sources, the president was “upset” by this development, but he apparently remains resolute about the memo’s supposed usefulness to him.

As CNN put it Thursday morning:

‘In phone calls last night and over the past days, Trump has told friends he believes the memo would expose bias within the agency’s top ranks and make it easier for him to argue the Russia investigations are prejudiced against him, according to two sources.’

The House Intelligence Committee voted along party lines to declassify the memo earlier this week, and it’s now up to the White House to decide whether or not the document should be released.

Sources speaking to CNN state that they expect a decision from the president on the matter on Thursday.
