Republicans sure will stoop to low levels to keep their supporters on the hook. During the McCarthyesque Benghazi witch hunt, they repeatedly teased and taunted the country with supposed damning information about Hillary Clinton they were prepared to release to the public. Nothing ever came of it though because the information really wasn’t damning at all. Of course their supporters fell for it hook, line and sinker.
They also fell for it back in 2012-13 during the IRS investigation. You may remember how Republicans got all bent out of shape because the IRS caught several tax exempt Tea Party groups using their money to help elect conservative candidates. An investigation ensued which was led by Darryl Issa. Issa got in the habit of releasing only bits and pieces of testimony in an attempt to put the IRS, and the White House in a bad light. That dirty trick came to a screeching halt after Maryland Rep. Elija Cummings released the full transcripts of the testimony, and it proved that Issa had been deceitful. It also cleared the White House of any wrong doing in the case. The whole investigation was nothing more than hot air from Republicans trying to take down the Obama administration.
With things not going so well for Donald Trump and his Russia investigation, it looks like Republicans have went right back to their same old deceitful playbook. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) of the House Judiciary Committee has constructed a misleading memo in an attempt to discredit the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia. Before it’s all said and done it won’t be surprising if they also attempt to discredit the CIA, the NSA, the HSA, OSHA, the BBB, the FHA, the IRS, the PTA and any other entity that has an alphabet designation. They’re so desperate to cover for Trump there’s no telling how low they’ll stoop this time.
But fear not because Democrats on the committee are attempting to right some wrongs. Rep. Jerrod Nadler (D-NY), has written to committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), and asked him to set up a meeting with FBI Director Christopher Wray, and other representatives from the Justice Department, to examine the talking points in the memo they say Republicans are using to discredit the work of the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
‘As you know, the White House may release the so-called “Nunes memo,” a set of talking points drafted by Republican staffers in an apparent attempt to discredit the work of the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
On January 24, 2018, the Department of Justice wrote to warn the House Intelligence Committee that releasing the memo would be “extraordinarily reckless.” On January 29, the FBI issued a statement citing “grave concerns” with inaccuracies and omissions in that document. On January 30, the Majority twice blocked our request to move the Committee into closed session, where we would be free to discuss our own concerns with the plan to make this information public.’
‘It is imperative that we hear directly from these officials about the security and law enforcement implications of making this information public,’ Nadler wrote.
It’s hilarious that even Fox News knows that the Nunes memo is a joke.
Trump is set to release the memo as early as Friday. It may come back to bite him and his Republican cronies though, because Rep. Nunes has been accused of changing the memo after a draft had been sent to Trump for approval. If that’s the case then Trump will have never seen the memo that is actually going to be released.
This won’t be surprising considering the ineptitude that surrounds Donald Trump and his Republican cohorts. If one pays enough attention to them it’s like watching a Keystone Cops movie. They’re bungling efforts come across as crooked, and prove that they’ll do whatever they have to do in order to keep Trump from going down.
