War Hero Tammy Duckworth Fires Back At Trump Calling Her ‘Treasonous’ & It Ain’t Pretty

On Monday, President Trump gave a speech in which he attacked Democrats for their behavior in failing to stand and applaud during his State of the Union address. Despite failing to realize that former President Obama received the same treatment from Republicans in, perhaps, all eight of his addresses, Trump continued to criticize the Democrats that were present during his speech.

Aside from misusing the word treasonous, and perhaps not looking inward before calling Democrats un-American, one representative that has remained vocal in exposing Trump fired right back at the president upon hearing the speech on Monday. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-I.L.) a decorated former servicewoman and opponent of the current administration, sent out a tweet reminding the public and the president that both herself, and the rest of the Democrats, took an oath to uphold the Constitution, not to cheer for a divisive and biased president.

Duckworth, who has been outspoken and critical of the ongoing detriment that the Trump administration has brought on, has made her beliefs more prominent and frequent in regards to the president. The reference to “Cadet Bone Spurs”, as shown above, alludes to Trump’s dodging of the draft during the Vietnam War, wherein he cited bone spurs as a justification for being unable to enlist and join in the military. As another means of clapping back at the president’s ill-advised comments, Duckworth followed up her initial post with another, showcasing the instances wherein Republican presidents and lawmakers have stood for true American values.

Duckworth’s second post plays to the attempt by Donald Trump to call the Democrats treasonous for failing to applaud him, citing Theodore Roosevelt’s quote that criticism and constructive progress is the only means in which the nation can grow stronger and more unified.

Whereas Trump continues to lob illogical and irrelevant attacks against Democrats, Duckworth has first-hand experience with what it means to be an American. In 2004, Duckworth lost both her legs when her helicopter was shot down in Iraq, and yet persevered against all odds. By attempting to discredit such individuals as Senator Duckworth, Trump is only further diminishing his own egregious reputation.
