The build up to the November 2018 midterm elections is well underway and the tension could not be more present. With the daily failings of the president and Republican-led Congress, flipping seats has never been more important to Democrats.

Every indication so far is that Democrats are poised to take back much of the ground lost in 2016. With every Trump-endorsed candidate’s loss, the news just seems to get better and better.

A special election in Sarasota, Florida proved yet another victory on Tuesday night. Democrat Margaret Good defeated James Buchanan for the seat in Florida House District 72. The district voted red during Trump’s run in 2016, but Good finished the night with a seven-point victory.

On Sunday night, Buchanan told supporters:

‘This is going to set the tone for 2018, and I’m telling you, it’s going to come down to a few hundred votes, if that. You can’t become complacent. It’s important that we get a win here.’

It came down to more than 3,000.

The race had been hotly contested, and Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, went to stump for the Republican candidate in Florida on Sunday.

‘They’re winning elections in places where they shouldn’t be.We’ve seen them win statehouse seats in Wisconsin. We’ve seen them win big mayor’s races in New Hampshire. Fifty seats have already changed hands, from Republicans to Democrats, since President Trump took office. Make no mistake: The Democrats are unified.’

The country can only hope that white he’s a pretty terrible guy, Lewandowski may have gotten something right for once.
