Someone woke up on the deflection side of the bed on Tuesday morning. As one of Trump’s top advisers prepares to testify before the Senate Intel Committee and face questions on the alleged collusion between the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and Russian government operatives and the obstruction of justice Trump committed during that investigation, Trump woke up grouchy and searching for allies. Of course, he found them on Fox News.
For once, Fox News told the truth in the Trump/Russia investigation. Contributors Andrew Napolitano, Ken Starr, and Jonathon Turley really haven’t seen any evidence that President Trump obstructed justice in the Russia investigation. Not because there is no evidence, but because their names are not Robert Mueller and they have not been retained as part of his staff.
Of course, Napolitano also believes that there’s some mountain of evidence indicting Trump’s former political rival and favorite Fox News whipping girl, Hillary Clinton, that a Republican-led committee investigating Benghazi overlooked and that former FBI Director James Comey, who may be responsible for destroying Clinton’s chance at the presidency, kept covered up for her. It’s hard to take anyone seriously who believes that even if the word “judge” appears in front of his name.
The truth is that no one other than Robert Mueller and his investigative team, as well as congressional members of select committees investigating the president who will hear adviser Hope Hicks’ testimony today, knows exactly what evidence exists against Donald Trump and his merry band of Russian-friendly campaign and administrative team. While some of those actions that appear to prove a case against them have been leaked and played out in the media, others have not, and the country will just have to suffer through this bumbling, embarrassing presidency until the investigation is complete.
Twitter users have grown impatient, and were quick to let the president know that he wasn’t convincing them of anything. See some of their best comments below:
