In the lead up to the 2016 election, Donald Trump bragged endlessly about how he would hire only the best people. He also claimed that he was a successful businessman and knew how to run a tight ship. Judging by all the “employees” who have resigned or been fired by his administration, it appears that Trump was just blowing hot air when he boasted about his abilities.
It was huge news a couple of days ago when Jared Kushner had his top secret security clearance stripped from him. But today brought even more embarrassing news to the Trump administration as more than 30 White House aides had their top secret security clearances stripped too. Bloomberg reported that two people familiar with today’s action said that the aides have already been notified that they will be downgraded to lower-level “secret” interim security clearances.
‘None of the officials has been asked to leave the administration and their portfolios on top secret matters will be distributed to other staff members, they said.’
All of the officials whose clearances were downgraded held the top secret designation on an interim basis. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly set a new policy that took effect last week that permits interim clearances only at the secret level and not permitting temporary clearances at higher levels.’
It’s anyone’s guess whether Kushner or the aides will even be able to regain their top secret clearances. Since so many of Trump’s people have already been caught lying to the FBI, it’s doubtful that all of them will have their clearances restored. It’s possible the FBI will use more scrutiny in these new cases than they have in the past.
The topic of temporary top secret security clearances came about because of the bumbling manner in which the Trump administration handles sensitive intelligence. They had allowed former Staff Secretary Rob Porter to keep his top secret clearance even after the FBI told them about Porter allegedly beating his former wives. The Trump administration drew intense criticism after the Porter case became public knowledge, and it’s very understandable why. They were allowing an alleged wife beater to have access to this country’s most best kept secrets.
But it’s not really surprising considering how inept the Trump administration is. Early in 2017 Trump had allowed Russian diplomats into the Oval Office and shared top secret information with them that angered Israel; so it seems they don’t really care about keeping this country’s secrets safe. And Americans really should be concerned.
There’s no telling how much damage Kushner or the White House aides could do with the top secret information they already know. If they mishandle the information, or worse, use it for their own personal advantage, it could really hurt the U.S. Unqualified people should never be allowed to have access to this country’s best kept secrets. Unfortunately it’s very apparent that there are no qualified people in the Trump administration and that includes Trump himself. This has to be the most corrupt, bumbling administration this country has ever seen.
