After the president spent his morning completing the all-important and taxing task of attacking the actor who portrays him on Saturday Night Live, Twitter waited with baited breath for the Twitter feud between Trump and Alec Baldwin commence. It wasn’t a long wait, but it sure was worth it.
The war of tweets began with the president’s insults toward Alec Baldwin, the actor whose portrayal of Trump has won him an Emmy and boosted Saturday Night Live‘s ratings tremendously.
Trump and his family, especially sons Junior and Eric, have spent much time on social media taking a stand against celebrities weighing in on politics; they’re quite against the practice. That is, they don’t like entertainers discussing politics publicly because they’ve both somehow forgotten that this is exactly how their father became president in the first place.
Baldwin’s check on Trump’s hubris was exactly what the moment called for and was a reminder that presidents don’t typically have such thin skin or weigh in on matters like Saturday Night Live. Twitter followers responded in full force, supporting (and howling with laughter at) Baldwin’s response.
