One of the key concerns for most Americans since the very start of the Trump administration has been Donald Trump’s unwillingness to reveal his tax returns or divest in his businesses. Indeed, throughout the past year we have been treated to story after story of the Trump business empire using White House leverage to make some quick cash.
Problem is, that’s illegal. Unfortunately, our “checks and balances” system requires someone to hold the guy in the White House accountable, and congressional Republicans have shown time and time again that they’re not willing to do their duty. In fact, they’re more likely to provide cover for Trump to continue robbing American taxpayers blind. As long as they get to ram new laws down our throats, they don’t care how corrupt the White House is.
Trump is now facing a complaint for what is possibly his most blatant violation of the law yet. According to multiple reports, Trump has taken to displaying the Presidential Seal, meant only for official purposes, on golf tees at the Trump Organization’s second-rate clubs. In other words, Trump is directly using official symbols of the President in what is essentially a commercial advertisement. Now, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), an anti-corruption government watchdog group, is asking the Department of Justice’s criminal division to take a long, hard look at Trump’s behavior.
Part of CREW’s complaint reads,
‘The Trump Organization, which owns and/or manages more than a dozen commercial golf courses, recently displayed golf tee markers bearing a replica of the Presidential Seal at one or more of its courses. Federal criminal law prohibits the use of the Presidential Seal to falsely convey government endorsement or approval. This law is designed to preserve the integrity of the Presidential Seal as an official government symbol, and past presidential administrations have vigorously policed unauthorized use of the seal. The Trump Organization’s use of the Presidential Seal in support of its commercial endeavors falsely conveys the impression of government sponsorship or approval or its commercial interests and should be investigated to determine if it violates the law.
‘Ordinarily, CREW would address these concerns to the White House Counsel’s Office, which historically has policed the improper use of the Presidential Seal. However, as this potential violation involves entities owned by President Trump, CREW requests that in this instance DOJ’s Criminal Division examine the Trump Organization’s use and display of the seal.’
CREW has filed a DOJ complaint against the Trump Organization for likely violating the law by displaying the Presidential Seal at one or more of its golf courses. https://t.co/tGsRUJF6ma

In other words, it’s not typically the president himself breaking the law to promote a business, so the White House Counsel Office cannot be trusted to carry out the law. It remains to be seen if the DOJ will take action against this obvious and egregious violation of the law.
Trump has proven yet again that when it comes to his job in office, he puts himself first and the country last (with a few steps between for family, friends, and loyalists). Every single chance he gets, he illegally uses the presidency to line his own pockets. Every single day he remains in office, our nation grows more corrupted.
