To say that controversy follows the president wherever he goes would be an understatement. He seems perpetually unable to carry out the most basic functions of his presidency without causing a stir. As one example of this, while speaking before the national Boy Scout convention last year, the president attracted wide scrutiny for how heavily politicized his message was.
The situation surrounding him hosting the annual White House Easter Egg Roll this Monday morning was no different.
He began the morning by firing off a series of angry tweets, as he marks so many other of his mornings.
He targeted interests from Mexico to the Department of Justice and the FBI, the latter two of which haven’t been as cooperative with GOP inquiries into possible misconduct as the president would like.
He began the morning on Twitter by targeting immigrants and seeking to hype up the current situation with immigration to the United States into some looming catastrophe, writing:
‘Act now Congress, our country is being stolen!’
He’s been carrying on against Mexico in the wake of a report from Fox & Friends about a group of migrants making their way through the country to the U.S. border, many of whom are seeking asylum here
One Twitter user pointed out that the president finished his morning ranting on Twitter after the Easter Egg Roll breakfast was supposed to begin. He posted his angry tweet directed at the FBI and DOJ at 9:58 AM Eastern Time; he and Melania were set to begin hosting the Easter Egg Roll at 9:45 AM.
Melania, I’m gonna be a bit late for the Easter Egg roll breakfast. I, I…. I have some more work to do. pic.twitter.com/9GWJg9caXc

Once he made it to actually address the crowd gathered for the Easter Egg Roll, he fired off a rant about how great the economy and military are supposedly doing, leaving you wondering how there wasn’t anyone somewhere inside that administration who managed to have him say something actually more relevant to the situation at hand. Instead, just like has taken place so many other times, the president stuck to acting as though the economy and military only began to be in a good state when he took office and not a moment before.
He said:
‘This is a special year; our country is doing great. You look at the economy, you look at what’s happening — nothing’s ever easy but we have never had an economy like we have right now, and we’re going to make it bigger and better and stronger. Our military will soon be at a level that it’s never been before. You see what’s happening.. with funding, the funding of our military was so important, and so many military people are with us today.’

It’s ironic for him to tout the importance of funding the military when he was just recently reported to have been privately mulling over having the military pay for the wall he’s long sought to see go up in between the U.S. and Mexico.
No matter where exactly he gets the money, if he ever does get it, the border wall is poised to be a massive monument to waste that eats up billions of dollars that could go to any number of other programs that actually provide a tangible benefit for the American people.

I will say I am nostalgic for the Easter Egg Roll tradition of @BarackObama going like 3-for-19 from the foul line as a bunch of NBA stars look on with increasing concern
