The nation has been enthralled for some time at this point with the story of adult film star Stormy Daniels’ alleged affair with President Donald Trump. The two of them allegedly got together during the beginning phases of the president’s marriage to Melania Trump, who is the present first lady, soon after she gave birth to the couple’s son Barron.

That’s not where the story ends, however. It came out earlier this year that the president’s team had facilitated a massive payment of hush money to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. That payment of $130,000 accompanied a nondisclosure agreement which Daniels has since sued to be free from.

Throughout the scandal, the question has remained of just how involved the president was in the negotiations over the NDA and the hush money that was delivered. Now, speaking to reporters aboard the presidential aircraft and breaking a significant period of silence on the matter, the president has taken to backing up his personal lawyer’s claim and asserted that he knew nothing of the hush money.

CNN’s Oliver Darcy says that when pressed about why the payment was ever sent out in the first place, the president commented:

‘You’ll have to ask Michael Cohen. Michael is my attorney. You’ll have to ask Michael.’

This statement from the president comes after those on the opposite side of him have continuously pointed out the questionable nature of Cohen’s assertion that as the president’s lawyer he carried on with negotiations surrounding the NDA and hush money without Trump’s knowledge.

For now, the case remains in the court system.
