Donald Trump has been busily trying to erase everything that President Barack Obama accomplished during his presidency. That has included all of 44’s executive orders on regulations. Yet, one regulation Trump fought had more to do with his own greed.

Smoke poured out of the 50th floor of Trump Tower, which contains both luxury apartments and office space. When people live in skyscrapers, they are subject to the errors of other residents, but the commander-in-chief caused this inferno, which killed one man and injured four firefighters.

Over 200 firefighters and EMS poured onto the scene. The three-alarm fire followed another fire just three months ago in the skyscraper. That incident injured two other people.

Prior to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) announcing that a man had perished in the fire, Trump tweeted out a callous message :

‘Fire at Trump Tower is out. Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!’

The FDNY Commissioner Dan Nigro gave a press conference at the scene of the fire according to The New York Daily News:

‘The entire apartment was on fire. The fire was a difficult fire. The apartment was quite large and 50 stories up.’

Nigro said that Trump Tower’s residential floor did not have sprinklers:

‘The upper floors, which are residence floors, are not sprinklered. But the building sure stood up quite well.’

One resident who lived on the 36th floor with her husband, 79, Lalitha Masson, 76, said it was “a very, very terrifying experience:”

‘When I saw the television, I thought we were finished. I started praying that this was our end. I called my oldest son and said goodbye to him because the way it looked everything was falling out of the window, and it reminded me of 9/11.’

Another resident, Dennis Shields, said there were no evacuation orders, but Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen warned him with a private tweet. It seems, the two grew up together. Shields said that he lived on the 42nd floor, and he rushed outside after he read the text:

‘He (Cohen) said “Are you in the building?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “You better get out ASAP.” That’s how I knew to get out, otherwise I’d still be in there.’

Firefighters found Todd Brassner, a 67-year-old art dealer who lived at the origin point of an electrical fire, which started in Trump Tower’s heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation system. The man was unconscious and declared dead at Mt. Sinai-West Medical Center.

Brassner was friends with the renowned artist, Andy Warhol, whose autobiography, The Andy Warhol Diaries, mentioned him time after time. The artist wrote that he and Brassner had dined together at Warhol’s Broadway factory in 1976. Then, Brassner called Warhol four months later to let the artist know that he had just glimpsed Muhammad Ali at the Polo Lounge.

The art dealer sold many of Warhol’s prints. A Warhol self-portrait sold for $601,000 in 2007. In addition, Brassner owned Warhol’s 1978 Marilyn Monroe print, which the artist signed “to Todd.”

Brassner had fallen into financial despair and filed for bankruptcy in 2015. The court record indicated that his apartment was valued at $2.5 million:

‘The limited support of his family coupled with his medical problems caused the debtor to fall into arrears on his mortgage, credit card payments and line of credit payments.’
