Donald Trump called CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post “fake news” throughout his presidential campaign and presidency. Granted, he dislikes any news that has not glorified him. Yet, this president has had it out for The Washington Post with a special kind of hatred. Why?

Trump fired another poison tweet at the Post. This time, he tweeted that the Post’s articles were “made up garbage” and reminded him of a “poorly written novel.” However, whether the president reads much, poorly written or otherwise, has been a question of some consideration:

‘The Washington Post is far more fiction than fact. Story after story is made up garbage – more like a poorly written novel than good reporting. Always quoting sources (not names), many of which don’t exist. Story on John Kelly isn’t true, just another hit job!’

Trump singled out the newspaper as the “chief lobbyist” for Amazon, clearly showing he had no knowledge of the two companies’ operations. Jeff Bezos started Amazon and is the company’s CEO, but he is just one of the owners. Bezos did buy in the Washington Post, but the two are separate, independent companies.

The Post’s Senior editor, Marc Fisher, did an interview on CNN’s Reliable Sources, and tried to put the matter to rest. He called Trump’s lobbyist company conspiracy theory “absurd.” Instead, the editor believed that the commander-in-chief has had “a jealousy issue” with Amazon’s CEO.

The senior editor said that the Washington Post does “critical reporting” on both Trump and Amazon:

‘It’s an absurd claim. The Washington Post has done really a lot of critical reporting of Amazon. What’s really going on here is that the president, according to some people inside the White House, has kind of a jealousy issue with Jeff Bezos.’

The problem really boils down to that little list that Forbes Magazine puts out of the richest people in the world. Granted, there is a fair amount of self-reporting, but even so, the exaggerator-in-chief came in way down near the bottom at number 766.

Bezos was at the top of the list, and Trump just cannot stand it. Fisher said that the man sitting in the Oval Office has had a “longstanding obsession” with the list:

‘He’s had a longstanding obsession with that Forbes list and doesn’t like where he is on it.’

The president’s media attacks are getting way out of control.
