Peaceful crowds of Syrians protested in March of 2011, but unlike the other adjoining countries, their government attacked them. Since then, Syria has killed 465,000 people, or they are missing. Another 5.6 million fled to Turkey, Jordan, North Africa, and Europe, and 6.1 million more have been displaced within Syria.

Syrian President Assad and his regime have lodged 30 chemical weapon attacks upon his own innocent people since 2011. The administration has not identified the type of chemical used to kill adults and children, but called the images of suffering children “shocking.”

Sanders said that Russia had failed to enforce the removal of chemical weapons in Syria, and that both Russian and Iran were also to be blamed for the chemical weapon attacks.

During the press conference, Sander said that the president had been very tough on Russia and that a good relationship with Russian president, Vladimir Putin depended upon Russia’s actions. She also listed a number of ways Trump had already been tough on Russia:

  • Ordered Treasury Department to impose new sanctions,
  • Condemned cyber activity
  • Expelled 60 agents
  • Closed two embassies
  • Provided energy and weapons to eastern European countries, and
  • Condemned the attacks on two former Russians in the UK.

As far as possible military action, Sanders said that the administration would keep the press posted.

In addition, the press secretary said that the National Security Adviser, Michael Bolton, would advise Trump, but all decisions were the president’s to make. Bolton would carry out the president’s agenda.

On the Chinese reaction to tariff’s, Sanders said there was a team working to come up with a way to help farmers caught in that possible economic war, but she did not want to get ahead of the Department of Agriculture.

Reporters asked her about the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Scott Pruitt’s, lack of integrity. Sanders called the $50-per-night rent in a condo next to the capitol “rent about market rate.” Regarding his outlandish travel, she said his actions were “being reviewed.”

When a reporter questioned her about the president’s accuracy, especially regarding voter fraud, the press secretary blamed the states for not cooperating with the administration to determine the actual number.

Sanders said Trump was committed to combating the opioid crisis, that it was “a primary focus” and one of his “top priorities.”
