With the death of first lady Barbara Bush, wife of H.W. Bush and mother of “Dubya,’ political figures gathered to pay their last respects to a woman who served the White House with grace and sly wit. You may not agree with the politics of her family; however, it’s easy to appreciate the Bush family when you compare them to the Trumps.
The guests in attendance also included current former lady Melania Trump. Yet, “President” Donald Trump was nowhere to be found. Along with attending the funeral, Melania tweeted her respects, thoughts, and prayers to the Bush family.
‘It was my honor to travel to Houston to give my respects to Barbara Bush and the remarkable life she led as a mother, wife, and fearless First Lady. My sincerest thoughts and prayers continue to be with Georgia H.W., and the entire Bush family.’
Though it’s a classy, yet expected, tweet, it’s hard to overlook the hell Melania’s husband played on the Bush family during the 2016 presidential campaign. It’s hard to imagine someone like Barbara Bush would be able to overlook what Trump did to her own son, the former governor of Florida and a presidential candidate. No mother takes that quietly.
In fact, Bush appeared on CBS This Morning and spoke about Trump and had little to say about him that was good.
‘He’s like a comedian or like a show man or something. It’s just the whole thing is … Not working with Congress, not working with … That’s the way things get done in this country. Truthfully.’
She also expressed dismay at the fact that women could even support Trump.
‘Well, what about women? Unbelievable. I don’t know how women can vote for someone who said what he said about Megyn Kelly. It’s terrible, and we know what he meant too. Don’t you get into his firing line, and money doesn’t buy everything. It’s accomplishments and what you’re doing and giving. It’s incomprehensible to me.’
She also said she was sick of Trump in a CNN interview. Her answer was still classy and gracious.
‘I’m sick of him. That’s very strong.’
Trump reportedly did not attend the funeral for the first lady “to avoid disruptions due to added security, and out of respect for the Bush Family.”
However, we’re going to assume the blunt woman who was nicknamed “the Enforcer” by her family made it clear she did not want Trump attending her funeral.
Twitter users responded to Melania’s tweet. Here are a few of those responses.
