Trump loves to brag about the “beautiful buildings” his companies build, even during rally speeches, and foreign heads of state have stated that they feel it necessary to stay at Trump-owed buildings when visiting the U.S. to meet with the president in order to not offend him.

Since two buildings with Trump’s name on them have caught fire just in April, one of which left a man dead that Trump never mentioned or expressed sympathy for despite the fact that Trump fought against regulations that required sprinkler systems in his buildings, those diplomats may want to think twice about staying in one of them.

Just 19 days after a Trump Tower building in New York City, a Trump International Hotel and Tower in Baku has now done the same. The Independent, quoting reporters who spoke with deputy head of the Emergency Situations Ministry Etibar Mirzoev, reports that:

‘He said it took more than three hours to extinguish the flames and suggested the response was delayed because of road closures put in place for Sunday’s Grand Prix, on the Baku City Circuit.’

While the building never officially opened and Trump abandoned plans to develop it after being elected, this is not the first controversy surrounding this particular location.

A Foreign Policy report from March, 2017 stated that:

‘With the Baku hotel deal, the Trump Organization may have violated federal corruption laws, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the New Yorker notes. The heart of the problem seems to be little due diligence before Trump jumped into the project, even though the country is known for being corrupt, his partners were billionaires on a $12,000-a-year-government salary, and corrupt practices were so commonly talked about they litter the State Department cables.’

Officials report no injuries at this time, but the fire is extremely dangerous considering the congested traffic due to the Grand Prix.
