Senator John McCain (R-AZ), who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in July, has been in and out of treatment and most recently, was hospitalized last month for an intestinal infection related to his illness, but has since been recovering at home in Sedona.
The senator has been in the news a lot recently especially since his new book The Restless Wave was published earlier this week. In his book, McCain speaks his mind candidly, attacking Trump at times and recounting memoirs of his life.
Now, on Thursday, as he and his family come to terms with the fact that he is nearing the end of life, White House press aide Kelly Sadler disgustingly mocked McCain’s cancer during a meeting of White House communications staffers. Sadler was asked about McCain’s opposition to CIA nominee Gina Haspel and she responded with:
‘It doesn’t matter, he’s dying anyway.’
It was later confirmed by two White House sources who were present that she did indeed say that.
Now, Senator McCain’s wife, Cindy McCain, has spoken out with some strong words for Sadler. Mrs. McCain tweeted quite simply, but to the point:
Twitter responded with overwhelming support for Cindy and the McCain family:
Sadler has not made any comments, but the White House, not denying what Sadler said, made a statement saying:
‘We respect Senator McCain’s service to our nation and he and his family are in our prayers during this difficult time.’
A source later reported that Sadler did call John McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain to apologize for her words.
