Donald Trump was alive and well during the administration of U.S. President Richard Nixon, meaning that he’s seen firsthand how the justice system can go after a corrupt president. Even still, it seems at times like the very existence of the modern Justice Department — let alone their Russia inquiry — is enough to send him into a frenzy.
Early Thursday morning, the president again took to Twitter in a frenzy, this time to hype up the fact that a confidential FBI source had interacted with members of his team into something much more than it is. He calls it “SPYGATE.”
He wrote:
‘Clapper has now admitted that there was Spying in my campaign. Large dollars were paid to the Spy, far beyond normal. Starting to look like one of the biggest political scandals in U.S. history. SPYGATE – a terrible thing!’
How self-obsessed can you get? Is he aware of what an idiot he sounds like for saying that a source for the FBI interacting with his team could be “one of the biggest political scandals in U.S. history”? Has he never heard of slavery? Has he never heard of the string of assassinations that have occasionally marked U.S. presidential administrations? Is he that much of an idiot that he thinks that a president literally dying is on the same level as him disliking the course of an investigation?
Apparently.
James Clapper, who served as Director of National Intelligence under Barack Obama, did not say that there was “spying in” the Trump campaign.
When asked that exact question, Clapper commented:
‘No, they were not. They were spying on, a term I don’t particularly like, but on what the Russians were doing. Trying to understand were the Russians infiltrating, trying to gain access, trying to gain leverage or influence which is what they do.’
Here the president remains anyway, ranting and raving about the supposedly horrible treatment he’s been subjected to.
Thursday morning, he continued on with his ranting, claiming there to be some sort of revolt inside the FBI against leaders he’s pushed out.
He wrote:
‘Not surprisingly, the GREAT Men & Women of the FBI are starting to speak out against Comey, McCabe and all of the political corruption and poor leadership found within the top ranks of the FBI. Comey was a terrible and corrupt leader who inflicted great pain on the FBI!
