It took less than a day after Roseanne Barr spewed a stream of ugly tweets that ran from just wrong to racism at its worst for repercussions to come raining down. ABC had rebooted the show RoseanneĀ and just added another star when she crashed it into a wall of hatred. Disney owns ABC and its CEO, Robert Iger, had a few things to say about Barr’s actions.
Iger’s decision will probably cost him millions, if not more. Yet, he decided that Barr’s particularly horrid tweet about President Barack Obama’s former top adviser, Valerie Jarrett, was simply unforgivable.
He cancelled Roseanne. It took moral courage for him to write this tweet:
‘From Channing Dungey, President of ABC Entertainment: “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”
There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.’
He is one of the most highly paid CEO’s in this nation. As such, it was good to see that he could lead the country away from such despicable racism and on toward a higher moral ground.
Iger has been at the forefront of change with Disney buying Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm. HisĀ instincts have been spot on and paid huge benefits in the movie theaters as well as on TV.
Some have even suggested Iger would be a good candidate for president. No doubt, the country could use some more integrity.
The Twitter World went wild after Iger’s announcement to cancel Roseanne. Check out some of our favorites below:
