Cohen Tries To Get Emergency Gag Order On Avenatti & The Judges Response Is Perfect

Upon first coming to light, many believed that the case of adult film star Stormy Daniels would be one that ultimately fizzled out of the national spotlight, as have a great deal of other cases that came against the president in his early days in office. As many women spoke out about the unwanted sexual advances made by the then-businessman despite their not giving consent, the Daniels case stuck out for the major reason that the $130,000 in hush money payment made to the adult actress raised concerns about Trump’s knowledge of it on the campaign trail, leading to speculation of illegitimate use of campaign funds.

As the case has progressed, one figure has remained prominent in keeping the suit at the top of headlines in the media, due to his impassioned comments and direct criticisms aimed at Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen. The lawyer representing Stormy Daniels, Michael Avenatti, has made his position clear on an array of news shows since the case first began, essentially leading to bad press and poor positioning for Cohen’s defense as the case has carried on. Clearly, Cohen has been feeling the pressure placed by Avenatti, as can be seen in recent actions to keep the high-profile attorney quiet throughout the proceedings.

According to an article by CNN:

‘President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen filed for a restraining order late Thursday against Stormy Daniels’ lawyer, Michael Avenatti, to prevent him from speaking to the press about the adult film star’s lawsuit.

“Avenatti’s actions are mainly driven by his seemingly unquenchable thirst for publicity,” the filing said, alleging that Avenatti “routinely denigrates” Cohen.

Avenatti’s “publicity tour,” the filing said, is “likely to result in Mr. Cohen being deprived of his right to a fair trial, and threatens to turn what should be a solemn federal court proceeding into a media circus.”‘

Cohen’s filing aims to place a level of blame on Avenatti’s media appearances, claiming that the things that are said on the news outlets have an impact on the court’s decisions on how they may rule. To Cohen’s point, Avenatti has become a fiery figure on mainstream media outlets, however, to imply that such appearances would have an impact on the decision of the federal courts would be a direct insult to the United States’s judicial process, believing that outside sources would ultimately influence the decision of the judges.

Avenatti was quick to strike back at the attempted gag order proposed by Cohen’s defense, claiming that the filing was not only baseless, but provided insight into their inability to deal with reality.

Regardless of the character portrayed by Avenatti on news outlets, the fact remains that he has remained within his legal bounds as an attorney, and has not provided any information that would compromise the facts of the case.

However, despite his greatest attempts to keep a handle on the spiraling case, the judge tasked with reviewing the gag order very quickly denied Cohen’s request. As claimed by Avenatti in his initial tweets, the filing inherently was baseless, as was identified by presiding judges.
