George Takei Responds To Trump’s New Internment Camps For Children Like A Survivor

Maybe Donald Trump has fallen back on his Nazi/German roots by thinking it’s okay to imprison children in internment camps. His new camps aren’t as brutal as the concentration camps the Nazi’s operated, but they’re for sure pretty damn scary to the children he has locked up in them. His camps are worse than the ones we operated for Japanese-Americans during WWII however. Actor and activist, George Takei, who was locked up in one of those camps back then, has written a brutal op-ed in Foreign Policy about his childhood experiences in one of those camps, and what’s happening to young migrant children now locked up in Trump’s camps.

He says that at least when he was locked he had his parents to comfort him. Today’s imprisoned migrants don’t have that luxury thanks to Donald Trump and his heartless actions.

‘In one core, horrifying way this is worse. At least during the internment of Japanese-Americans, I and other children were not stripped from our parents. We were not pulled screaming from our mother’s arms. We were not left to change the diapers of younger children by ourselves.’

‘I cannot for a moment imagine what my childhood would have been like had I been thrown into a camp without my parents. That this is happening today fills me with both rage and grief: rage toward a failed political leadership who appear to have lost even their most basic humanity, and a profound grief for the families affected.’

The United States has committed a few actions that will forever remain a stain on this country. Some of the worst being that we were a slave holding nation, our actions in Latin America countries from the 40s until the 90s that are still affecting them now, and the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII. The new stain on our country is that we’re allowing Donald Trump to heartlessly separate migrant children from their parents, and that we’re also allowing him to put them in the 21st century version of internment camps.

George Takei is a brave Japanese-American who suffered through one of the worst things this country has ever committed against her own people. He’s not going to quietly sit by and watch us commit heinous acts against other people either. He has a huge following and apparently he’s going to start fighting back actions Trump’s inhumane policies.
