Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) is an amazing person. She’s a war hero who’s used to standing up for what she believes. Today she and her newborn baby girl joined with hundreds of other people, mostly women, to protest the Trump administration’s zero tolerance immigration policy on Capitol Hill. Joining her were Democratic colleagues Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). Congressional reporter for the Daily Beast, Andrew Desiderio caught some of the action on film.

Duckworth told CNN afterwards,
‘I wanted to show my support for the folks here today. I could only imagine what it would be like to have my daughter — my breastfeeding child — ripped away from me the way some of these other moms’ babies have been.’
Donald Trump only has himself to blame for today’s protest. It’s his Gestapo like policy that caused thousands of children to be separated from their families. Trump, who is trying his best to turn average, normal, every day Americans against Latinos, had to reverse his own order after public outrage became too much for him to handle. So instead of ripping families apart, he decided to go ahead and just imprison families together.
This country would not be able to operate if we didn’t have immigrants here. We have the means and the jobs to enable them to provide better lives for their families. Trump’s nationalistic policies are going to backfire on us in a big way. Anyone with any common sense can see that. Unfortunately the man making the decisions at the top has no common sense, so we’ll have to suffer through his decisions until he’s replaced in 2020.
Until then at least we have good people like Senator Duckworth fighting for what’s right. She certainly has no problem standing up to the likes of Donald Trump, so hopefully she and people like her can bring about some much needed changes in this country.
