Last year, Mr. Trump made headlines mocking Senator Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) self-professed Native American heritage by calling her “Pocahontas.” He has revived the nickname over and over, and last November, he even tossed the derogatory nickname out again while honoring Native American veterans at an event at the White House.
On Thursday night, Trump called Warren “Pocahontas” again, vowing to offer her a $1 million charitable donation to undergo genetic testing to prove her ancestry. Trump said:
‘Pocahontas,’ they always want me to apologize for saying it. Pocahontas, I apologize to you. To you, I apologize. To the fake Pocahontas, I won’t apologize.’
According to The Washington Examiner:
‘Trump said that if Warren is the Democratic presidential nominee in 2020, he would toss her a DNA kit, such as those offered by 23andMe, during a debate and challenge her to take it.’
The president said the kit has to be tossed “gently because we’re in the MeToo generation.”:
‘We will very gently take that kit and slowly toss it hoping it didn’t hit her and injure her arm even though it weighs probably two ounces. We will say, “I will give $1 million to your favorite charity paid for by Trump if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian.”‘
Trump went on to say:
‘Let’s see what she does, right? I have a feeling she will say no. But we will hold that for the debates.’
Here’s what Twitter had to say:
Senator Warren is a potential challenger for Mr. Trump in 2020, and has said that her mother’s family is Cherokee. There aren’t any conclusive reports of Warren’s Native American ancestry though. Warren has been accused by Trump and other Republicans of using her heritage to advance her academic career.
According to Trump, Warren thinks she is Native American because “her mother said she has high cheekbones.”
