Trump Makes Horrific Deportation Announcement & U.S. Military Veterans Are Furious

Donald Trump says his hardline immigration stance is because he wants to keep Americans safe from drugs, crimes, gangs, and murder. Demonizing those you want to abuse is important in order to get people to agree with what you’re doing. Those on the left have insisted that he does it solely in order to cater to his racist fanbase. As it turns out, neither of those are true. It’s simply his own racism that drives it.

There’s no better example of this than a new revelation from the Associated Press.

‘Some immigrant U.S. Army reservists and recruits who enlisted in the military with a promised path to citizenship are being abruptly discharged, the Associated Press has learned.’

This news is not only disturbing, it’s also incredibly surprising. Trump cannot claim that these are people who put American lives at risk. They’re willing to serve our country and put their own lives at risk to protect us.

However, those on the left cannot say this is part of Trump’s 2020 campaign strategy. If immigrants had not begun seeking attorneys due to their unnecessary and abrupt discharges, no one would never have even known about it.

One soldier from Brazil said he was devastated by the news:

‘It was my dream to serve in the military. Since this country has been so good to me, I thought it was the least I could do to give back to my adopted country and serve in the United States military.’

These are not undocumented immigrants. These are people here under legal status, such as those with a work or student visa or part of the DACA program.

One of the immigration attorneys also gave a statement to AP:

‘Immigrants have been serving in the Army since 1775. We wouldn’t have won the revolution without immigrants. And we’re not going to win the global war on terrorism today without immigrants.’

In case anyone is thinking there is no way that the Trump administration or any other government agency could possibly spin this, they’ve tried. They just lied about it.

‘All service members (i.e. contracted recruits, active duty, Guard and Reserve) and those with an honorable discharge are protected from deportation.’

It’s a false defense, however. These immigrant soldiers are not given an honorable discharge, they’re given an unknown discharge, which denies them a path to citizenship and makes them eligible for deportation once their temporary legal eligibility to remain in the United States runs out.

The program that allows the path to citizenship, known as Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI), was implemented by a Republican president. Of course, as soon as President Obama expanded and supported it, it was doomed to become extinct by the Trump administration, whose sole goal seems to be destroying everything Obama ever did no matter how good it was for Americans.

‘President George W. Bush ordered “expedited naturalization” for immigrant soldiers in 2002 in an effort to swell military ranks. Seven years later the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest program, known as MAVNI, became an official recruiting program.

‘It came under fire from conservatives when President Barack Obama added DACA recipients — young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally — to the list of eligible enlistees. In response, the military layered on additional security clearances for recruits to pass before heading to boot camp.’

Trump, who promotes himself as pro-military, will not look good on this one. Republicans, on the other hand, are going to be torn. Will they be outraged over this mistreatment of people willing to serve our country with all their talk of military support and patriotism, or will they cheer Trump on because it’s making life harder for brown people?
