Donald Trump is losing friends among the GOP quickly now that he handed our country and its safety over to the foreign adversary who helped him become president. His lies, his violations of the emoluments clause, his campaign’s shady meetings with Russian government operatives, and his ineptness didn’t seem to bother his fellow party members, but the joint press conference in which Trump supported Russian President Vladimir Putin over our own intelligence agencies and justice department officials finally got them.
There is still one inexplicably supportive GOP member in Congress, though.
Rand Paul was the sole member of the Republican Party that went on television on the day following Trump’s traitorous actions in Helsinki and supported the groveling, disgusting actions and statements of President Trump. Not so coincidentally, Senator Paul was also one of only three members of Congress who voted against imposing sanctions on Russia for their illegal hacking and cyberwarfare at the beginning of Trump’s presidency.
As it turns out, the congressional vote on those sanctions were worthless with Trump in the White House. He signed the bill supporting those sanctions but still has never imposed them.
Paul and Trump seem to have forgotten what the word “partisan” means. The FBI, headed by Trump appointee Christopher Wray, and the Department of Justice, headed by the Trump appointee deputy Director Rod Rosenstein, are not conducting a partisan investigation and did not use partisan leanings to issue indictments against 12 Russians for influencing the 2016 presidential elections. They used evidence.
