Donald Trump went on a Twitter rampage following the backlash from his support of Russian President Vladimir Putin over his own U.S. government. After he ridiculously tried to walk back his statements that he believed Putin when he said Russia didn’t interfere in the 2016 elections, his ire at the criticism seems to be increasing by the day.
No matter how he tries to spin his comments in Helsinki, no one other than his most rabid supporters is buying it. As confidence in the U.S. falls across the world with Trump in office, he insists that it’s only the Democrats and the American media who are critical of him. None of that is true. Trump’s lies and misleading statements increase every week, but his absurd explanation of his comments in Helsinki – Trump said that he didn’t see any reason why Russia would be responsible for the illegal election hacking during the 2016 presidential campaigns but walked that back 24 hours later, saying that what he meant was that he didn’t see why the hacking wouldn’t be Russia – may be the lie he’s most remembered for once he’s finally out of office.
Trump tweeted a total of 10 times between his meeting with Putin and his walkback but never mentioned the mistake he says he made. What he did tweet after that meeting, and continues to tweet, is that the economy is doing so much better than ever before that anything else he does should be ignored. These are more misleading statements.
In truth, job growth has slowed under Trump. He is nowhere near the continued growth percentage under Obama, or gains in the stock market, and certainly not in wage growth. Yet he continues to take credit for a “booming economy” that he inherited from his predecessor.
