Donald Trump touted buying Made In America products, yet he had his tentacles deep into the Chinese economy. Then, he was all “save Chinese jobs” and let a Chinese company sell spyware on our phones. Business Insider reported China loaned a resort with Trump hotels half billion dollars, but that was not the only buy-American promise he broke.

President of New York’s Sherrill Manufacturing and last flatware producer in the country, Matt Roberts, attended the annual “Made in America Product Showcase” at the White House.

Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY) came over to him with a spoon and asked the manufacturer who made it. The Syracuse reported that Roberts said:

‘It says Oneida Ltd. It’s made in China.

She recorded Trump on her cell phone saying he would buy the American-made flatware:

‘I’ll buy it, I’ll buy it. Done!’

Trump’s cabinet members, American manufacturers, and Congress members came to the event. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro, the president’s top trade adviser, both attended.

Co-founder and CEO of Sherrill Manufacturing, Greg Ownens, said an aide told him that Trump saw Liberty Tabletop silverware when he had a private tour of the State Dining Room:

‘Apparently he pointed it out and said, ‘I want this stuff in the White House.’ So I’m expecting a phone call or email in the next couple of days.’

Roberts and Owens bought out Oneida Ltd.’s manufacturing plant when it sold to a Chinese company.

A White House military aide came to Roberts and said his flatware looked familiar. She had been serving on one of the nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan:

‘Well, you’ve probably used our flatware. We supplied the ship.’

The manufacturer was understanding about why his company might not be Trump’s top priority:

‘With all of the things going on in the world, forks and spoons in your kitchen are not exactly the top priority at the White House.’
