Trump Just Destroyed 205 Acres, Including Federally Protected Land, For His Golf Course

Even before he was elected president in some cruel twist of fate, people in other countries already didn’t like Donald Trump, so it’s no surprise that his shady business practices from before November 2016 are still controversial and harmful today.

One of Trump’s golf courses in Scotland, built just outside of Aberdeen, was one of those highly controversial issues. Residents there protested it because of the projected harm to the environment. Trump gave several assurances that he would not let that happen.

As it turns out, the golf course destroyed more than 205 acres that included legally protected sand dunes.

According to the Associated Press:

‘Scottish authorities approved the outlines of the project in 2008, though each phase will require additional review. The company last week unveiled plans to invest 150 million pounds ($196 million) in the second phase of development.

‘During the original approval process, Trump promised to minimize any environmental damage, saying he was “fully committed to mitigating the effects of the course on the environment.”’

Bob Ward, who the Associated Press identifies as “policy director of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics.”

‘I think the problem here is the disregard they’ve shown and the way in which they made promises which he has not kept. I think personally that the Scottish government here has not been as strong as it should have been in holding Mr. Trump to account, and I hope that they will now see the need to do that.’

It isn’t enough, apparently, that Donald Trump has, here in the U.S.,  appointed heads of the EPA who have said publicly that they abhor the EPA and refuse to believe in climate change, or that Trump backed the U.S. out of the Paris Accord. It seems he’s determined to wreck the environment everywhere else in the world, too.
