On Friday, Mr. Trump slammed Lebron James on Twitter after he was interviewed by CNN’s Don Lemon. A portion of the interview focused on James’ new school he opened up in Cleveland to help at-risk youth. James also talked about how Trump is using athletes and athletics to divide the country.
Trump tweeted:
‘Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!’
It didn’t take long for Hillary Clinton to set the record straight though. Clinton tweeted:
‘@KingJames is a great family man, incredible ballplayer, gives back to his community, and isn’t afraid to speak his mind. He’s a world class athlete and a class act. We need more like him in this world.’
Twitter quickly responded to Hillary:
During the interview, James said:
‘When you’re a part of sports…it just brings so much comraderie and so much fun. We are in a position right now in America, more importantly, where this whole – this race thing – is taking over. One, because I believe our president is trying to divide us.’
James also talked about Kaepernick who was targeted by Trump for his protests over racial injustice by kneeling during the anthem. However, the one comment that may have sparked Trump’s fury was when Lemon asked James if he would ever want to meet Mr. Trump. James responded:
‘I’d never sit across from him. I’d sit across from Barack though.’
Michael Jordan also tweeted in support of Lebron James although Trump has said that he likes Jordan. He said:
‘I support L.J. He is doing an amazing job for his community.’
