One year ago today Heather Heyer was killed after James Fields cruelly drove his car into a crowd who were protesting white supremacy in Charlottesville, VA. Fields was later charged with federal hate crimes.
Today, former Vice President Joe Biden honored Heyer’s memory in a tweet saying that her spirit lives on in those who fight hatred and bigotry.
Today we honor the memory of Heather Heyer, whose spirit we see in every person who stands up to reject hatred and bigotry. Make no mistake: this fight goes on. The battle for the soul of this nation rests with each of us, everyday.

“The battle for the soul of this nation rests with each of us, everyday.” And he’s exactly correct. Those of us who see or hear bigotry or hatred perpetuated on others have a duty to stand up and fight against it. Biden has been the kind of man who stands up against injustice when he sees it happening. Last year during the Charlottesville rally he tweeted out another powerful post.
No. Not in America. We must be stronger, more determined and more united than ever. Racism and hate have no place here. #charlottesville

And he didn’t stop there. He went on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and called the rally reprehensible and blasted Donald Trump for saying that both sides were equally responsible for the violence. Biden sure has acted more presidential than the guy currently residing in the White House. The kind of man who isn’t afraid to stand up in the face of hate and fight against it is the kind of leader this country needs. Not a weakling who bows to the forces of evil and blames the innocent among us.
No one knows yet whether Joe Biden will be running in the 2020 election, but no matter what you think of him, he’s certainly better than Donald Trump. He has class, intelligence, and the experience to do the job well. He’s also like so many other Americans out there…he’s like a down-home neighbor you’d go to when you have a problem you need help with.
The Twitterverse sure likes the thought of a President Biden.
