People have said all along that the Trump administration is the most bigoted administration in common times. Heck, even Donald Trump has been accused of being a racist for years. Today we learn that one of Trump’s speechwriters was recently fired after it became public knowledge that he had appeared at a white nationalist conference. The people who investigate new hires for Trump must not have found that information troubling though, or he would never have ended up working in the White House.
The Washington Post reported that Darren Beattie, who used to be an instructor at Duke University before he joined Trump’s administration, was fired Friday after someone from the media asked about his appearance at the 2016 H.L. Mencken Club conference, where Beattie spoke on a panel alongside Peter Brimelow. The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks extremists, says that Brimelow runs an anti-immigrant website and is a white nationalist who regularly posts works by white supremacists, anti-semites, and other extreme right-wingers.
Only after the White House got wind that CNN was going to be publishing an article about Beattie’s little white nationalist secret did they urge him to step down. Apparently, he refused, so they fired him instead. CNN discovered that Beattie had worked on speeches for Stephen Miller and those two seem to be a match made in heaven, considering Miller has long-standing ties to leaders in the white nationalist movement too.
It’s mind-boggling that the Trump administration seems to be overrun with staff that think this country should be an all-white country. It’s possible that one quiet, unassuming, racist/white nationalist employee could sneak into any administration if they’ve covered their tracks well enough, but the Trump administration seems to be loaded with them. Don’t they know how to run background checks? Either they don’t, or the administration just doesn’t care if they’re there…until the media finds out about it that is.
