The spin on Michael Cohen’s guilty plea in which he implicated President Donald Trump in felony campaign violations is becoming more than a little surreal. From “the truth is not the truth” to “flipping almost ought to be illegal,” the Trump administration is flailing to paint the news in a different light.

As if it wasn’t enough that Trump seems to have no ability to tell the truth in any capacity, he frequently sends out his legal spokesman, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, to spread more lies. In a statement to Sky News during a golfing trip in Scotland, Giuliani scoffed at the idea that Trump may be impeached for committing the alleged felony and threatened “revolt” if impeachment proceedings remove Trump from office.
‘You could only impeach [Trump] for political reasons and the American people would revolt against that…You have this Cohen guy, he doesn’t know anything about Russian collusion, he doesn’t know anything about obstruction, he’s a massive liar.’
In truth, a judge would not allow Cohen to plead guilty or make a plea deal without substantial evidence of his testimony. Pleading guilty to a crime that doesn’t exist isn’t a possibility, and audio tape of Trump discussing the illegal payments to his porn star and Playboy Playmate mistresses has already been released to the public.

Despite the audio recording that everyone can hear with their own ears, Giuliani continued his gaslighting campaign to convince voters that they didn’t hear what they did actually hear.
‘The tape recordings say very clearly that Cohen did it on his own, didn’t tell the president until much later…There’s no reason [to impeach Trump]. He didn’t collude with the Russians, he didn’t obstruct justice. Everything [Michael] Cohen says has been disproved. You’d only impeach him for political reasons. And the American people would revolt against that.’

Giuliani’s insistence that Cohen knows nothing about Russian collusion involving the president may not hold up, either. While the former Trump attorney and his lawyer, Lanny Davis, are unable to produce evidence while the investigation is ongoing, Davis certainly alluded to evidence yet to come.
‘At this juncture, I can only say that [Cohen] was present during a discussion with [Donald Trump Jr.] and [Trump].’

Giuliani may believe that Trump can never be impeached, it doesn’t seem to be true. As for the rest of us, we can only hope.
