President Donald Trump has a huge appetite for conspiracy theories, fueling his rise to power with them. This Monday, he’s taken to coming up with new ones, suggesting that the Department of Justice going after two corrupt Republican Congressmen is part of some kind of plot to undercut his administration.

In part, he wrote Monday afternoon:

‘Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff. The Democrats, none of whom voted for Jeff Sessions, must love him now… Really sick!’

The investigations he’s so angry about are into U.S. Reps. Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins.

Hunter and his wife have been indicted for routinely and illegally using campaign funds for personal expenses, while Collins has faced legal scrutiny for insider trading. Notably, both men were among the very first members of Congress to endorse Trump during his presidential campaign.

To be clear, both of these men are credibly alleged to have committed actual crimes. The Justice Department didn’t pull these charges out of thin air. Trump is openly asserting that the nation’s justice system should be politicized and used to bolster his political standing, since he seems to have wanted the investigations of these apparent actual criminals to push any charges off until after the midterm elections.

Trump is pretty clearly feeling the heat of the upcoming midterm elections, with Democrats expected to take control of the U.S. House and possibly grow their influence in and control of the U.S. Senate.

The president’s attempted obstruction of justice, though, just isn’t going to fly by unnoticed. Special Counsel Robert Mueller at present continues his investigation.

Monday, he also added a jab at reports that former U.S. Senator John Kerry didn’t rule out running for president in 2020.
