Donald Trump’s nominee for Supreme Court associate justice, Brett Kavanaugh, stood on very shaky grounds as he approached his Senate Supreme Court hearing. There was an unprecedented rush to push him through the process. That makes one wonder, what is the administration trying to hide?
Senate Minority Leaders Chuck Schumer tweeted as soon as he received the document dump:
‘The Senate was just given an additional 42,000 pages of Kavanaugh documents the NIGHT BEFORE his confirmation hearing. This underscores just how absurd this process is. Not a single senator will be able to review these records before tomorrow.
‘Republicans know this has been the least transparent SCOTUS process in history and the hearings should be delayed until we can fully review Judge Kavanaugh’s records.’
Fifteen hours before the start of this hearing, President George W. Bush’s former attorney dumped 42,390 pages from Kavanaugh’s time working for the president on the committee. That would have been 7,000 pages per hour, which would have taken a superhuman effort to read.
The White House withheld over 100,000 pages of the nominee’s record based upon executive privilege. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said:
‘There are 100,000 pages protected by executive privilege, but it has not been asserted by the White House legitimately…102,000 withheld when constitutional privilege was never invoked.’
Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) noted that there was “not integrity” in the existing documents:
‘Integrity of document (is in question), oddities, names missing, emails cut off half way.’
