It’s sad when Americans can no longer trust their president even in the most important of times. Hurricane efforts are vital, of course, to the lives and safety of American citizens, and when the presidents responses to them are politicized and untruthful, it helps no one.
The death toll from Hurricane Florence, so far, is 12. According to CBS News:
‘At least 12 were killed in storm-related incidents in North and South Carolina, authorities said. The latest death involves two people who died in a house fire in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Officials said firefighters were unable to quickly enter the building due to the storm. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
‘In Wayne County, an 81-year-old man died Friday after falling and striking his head while he was packing to evacuate.’
Trump has been on a recent Twitter tantrum about the 2,975 reported deaths reported in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. What he wants more than anything is to distract from that with a great response to this particular hurricane, but he’s not going to get praise for once again underplaying the deaths of those caught in its path.
His sympathies were not received well this time since he showed so little during the hurricanes in Puerto Rico. It has become impossible to trust him with even the smallest details, even about a national disaster.
