Slowly but surely, in a methodical fashion, the Mueller investigation into the alleged collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russian government operatives rolls on, with target after target ending in guilty pleas: George Papadapolous, Rick Gates, Michael Flynn, Michael Cohen, and now, Paul Manafort.
Mueller has spent little time “in search of a crime” since they just keep popping up everywhere we look. Bank fraud, tax fraud, campaign finance violations, defrauding the country, lying to the FBI…there’s a whole host of crimes to choose from.
It’s also untrue that Mueller’s investigation is in any way illegal. Other presidents, such as Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, faced special investigators, as well. It’s no more illegal now than it was then, and Trump is likely to face the same fate as the previous two did: impeachment or resignation.
Interestingly, Trump only cares about what’s “bad for the country” when it’s things that make him look bad. He doesn’t care that his bombastic, racist, xenophobic, and clueless incompetence has the entire world laughing at the United States, he only cares that being held accountable for crimes and the crimes of the people he hired and have been closest to are making him and his entire operation in the White House look bad. 49 percent of the country think Trump should be impeached. Only 38 percent approve of the job he’s doing, and even less find Trump trustworthy.
Trump is failing, and that’s not Robert Mueller’s fault.
