George W. Bush Goes Full-Rogue & Brazenly Disses Ted Cruz Weeks Before Midterms

Former presidents often hit the campaign trail to support their party’s newer candidates both in midterms and with endorsements and appearances in presidential elections. George W. Bush is scheduled to do the same for several GOP candidates ahead of the midterms in November.

He won’t stump for one of them, though, and that one happens to be the only candidate in the running from his home state of Texas.

“I just don’t like [Ted Cruz],” Bush said at a fundraising event in 2015, and that sentiment doesn’t seem to have changed. Bush’s spokespeople said that the other candidates simply worked with Bush’s schedule and stumping for Cruz did not, but the former president has made no secret of his distaste for Cruz.

According to The Dallas News:

‘Bush held a closed-door event Wednesday morning in Fort Worth for Rep. Will Hurd, R-San Antonio, and will host a similar gathering next week in Dallas for Rep. Pete Sessions, the Republican who serves as Bush’s congressman.

‘The former president will also headline fundraisers in the coming days and weeks for Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who is running for Senate in that state; North Dakota Senate candidate Kevin Cramer; Missouri Senate candidate Josh Hawley; and Indiana Senate candidate Mike Braun.’

Despite the fact that Cruz once worked for Bush, however, he is nowhere on the schedule for campaign assistance. For that, Cruz will have to rely on Donald Trump, his former nemesis who, during the 2016 presidential election, called Cruz’s wife “unattractive” and promoted a story from The National Enquirer that said Cruz’s father was tied to the assassination of JFK.

‘Cruz once worked for the former commander in chief, both on Bush’s presidential campaign and then in his administration. The senator also met his wife, Heidi, while working for Bush’s campaign, leading him to say that he “will always be grateful” to the former president.

‘But Bush hasn’t reciprocated many warm feelings for Cruz, who made his name by rebelling against the GOP establishment that Bush represents.’

Cruz is going to need all the help he can get considering that he’s in a dead heat with his Democratic challenger, Beto O’Rourke. He won’t be getting that help from any former presidents, though, just the one who told Texans not to vote for him because he was an “all talk and no action” senator.
