There are many disadvantages in Donald Trump operating this great machine called America by the seat of his pants. He has tried to fire important leaders in his own intelligence community to keep his alleged ties to the Russian government from being uncovered. What he did not consider was this consequence of his actions.
POTUS fired Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Director Andrew McCabe after his 20 plus years rising in the FBI. Trump had Attorney General Jeff Session fire him hours before the deputy director’s retirement went into effect. Now, McCabe has a tell-all book deal that will severely wound the man sitting in the Oval Office.
The book will be entitled THE THREAT: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump, according to his publisher. If it does anywhere near what the former FBI Director James Comey’s book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership, it will be a huge success. After Trump fired Comey, his book sold over 600,000 the first week it was released.
The Department of Justice’s (DOJ) inspector general’s report accused McCabe of misleading investigators, who had been looking into a leak about the FBI’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation. The leak led to a Wall Street Journal article.
However, McCabe said the charges were false.
His publisher, St. Martin’s Press, is a division of Macmillan and released a statement from McCabe. In it, he said that Trump “is undermining America’s safety and security:”
‘I wrote this book because the president’s attacks on me symbolize his destructive effect on the country as a whole. He is undermining America’s safety and security, and eroding public confidence in its institutions. His attacks on the most crucial institutions of government, and on the professionals who serve within them, should make every American stand up and take notice.’
Executive Vice President and Publisher of St. Martin’s said:
‘We are thrilled and honored to be publishing Andrew McCabe’s book — destined to be a seminal record of our times. THE THREAT will be candid, dramatic, and urgently newsworthy.’
St. Martin’s said that McCabe’s book will tell the real story of how Trump and his administration threatened America in their attempt to:
‘Undermine the FBI and the entire intelligence community. (It is) A series of troubling, contradictory, and often bizarre conversations.’
Trump seemed particularly irked that McCabe’s wife had received campaign funds from then-Democratic Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe’s political action committee (PAC). She was running for state senator, but lost.
The president was enraged when the FBI investigated the Trump campaign’s alleged conspiracy with the Russian government. Instead, Trump believed that the FBI should have been going after his 2016 presidential campaign opponent, Hillary Clinton’s emails when she was secretary of state during the President Barack Obama administration.
This is the full St. Martin’s statement:
The commander-in-chief fired off this celebratory tweet after he had McCabe fired:
‘Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI – A great day for Democracy.’
Since then, Trump has threatened to revoke the former FBI deputy director’s security clearance as punishment.
The new book will be available in hardcopy, ebook, and audio formats. McCabe has denied all of Trump’s allegations. Now, he is suing the Department of Justice for wrongful termination.
