Kavanaugh Repeatedly Weeps & Compulsively Gulps Water During Senate Hearing

On Thursday morning, for the first time, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee. She accuses President Donald Trump’s U.S. Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault — and once Thursday afternoon dawned, Kavanaugh appeared to answer the allegations.

He delivered an angry, hyperpartisan opening statement that many noted is hardly befitting of someone trying to prove they deserve to sit on the Supreme Court, marked by intense and obvious nervousness exemplified through means like sticking to repeatedly drinking water, some noted. He broke down in tears repeatedly, for the first time when he explained that his young daughter wanted the family to pray for “the woman,” meaning Ford. He repeatedly broke down after that point, gradually shifting away from the yells he opened with to a much more harried — and even frenzied — tone.

Still, throughout his remarks, no matter what emotion he was using to try and appeal to his supporters, a common thread remained — his claim that the allegations against him are nothing more than a partisan hit job stemming from anger, he said, with the outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential elections. He cast the efforts against him as revenge-seeking on behalf of the Clintons — seriously.

Reporter Judd Legum quipped while the opening statement was underway:

‘I think the first question Kavanaugh should be asked is what evidence he has for his claim that Ford came forward as part of a plot to obtain “revenge on behalf of the Clintons.”‘

Reporter Daniel Dale added a quip:

‘This is, to put it mildly, an unusual tone for a witness at a congressional hearing.’

The opinions to that effect keep on going — and yet here we remain anyway, with this guy the best the GOP can do, banking on a defense including the fact of how long ago the claimed incident took place… because that makes it irrelevant to him, or something. He wants the fact that the “party” the incident involving Ford took place at isn’t on his calendar from decades ago to be a core part of the supposed body of evidence in his favor — seriously.
