At least two GoFundMe campaigns were set up in support of Christine Blasey Ford as she traveled to Washington D.C. to testify about her accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Though these campaigns are no longer accepting donations, in just 11 days, the accounts have exceeded $700,000 with donations given by more than 11,000 people.
Among the thousands of people to donate to Ford’s GoFundMe campaigns was legendary bassist Philip Lesh, one of the founding members of the Grateful Dead. Lesh reportedly donated $10,000 to the campaign titled “Help Christine Blasey Ford.” Lesh’s representative confirmed the donation to Rolling Stone today, though Lesh himself did not comment.
The Grateful Dead bassist made his donation this past Sunday, but it wasn’t until Thursday — the day of the hearings — that the donation was discovered.
Phil Lesh isn’t the only celebrity to openly support Dr. Ford in coming forward with her brave testimony. Alyssa Milano sat in the room behind Dr. Ford during the hearings, and also spoke to the press afterward. Actress Evan Rachel Wood of the popular HBO series Westworld posted to Instagram in support of Dr. Ford writing, “Your sisters are with you, Dr. Ford. Thank you for your incredible bravery.”
Both Ford and Kavanaugh testified this past Thursday, and on Friday the Judicial Committee voted in favor of moving forward with Kavanaugh’s nomination. The vote will now go on to the Senate, however, Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) said that he would not support the vote unless there was an FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations brought forward by Dr. Ford and several others against Brett Kavanaugh. The White House agreed to these terms and ordered the investigation which will last a week.
