Donald Trump spoke at the National Electrical Contractors Association Convention on Tuesday and tweeted portions of his remarks there. On a day when news outlets have uncovered not only Trump’s repeated lies about his knowledge of the payoff to his former mistress, Stormy Daniels, in an illegal use of campaign donations, but also his long history of possible tax fraud, he made statements he should have been to ashamed to utter.

A man with a long history of refusing to pay contractors and stiffing those same workers who built his fortune with their “own two beautiful hands” should not have the gall to stand up and speak of honoring them. Trump, however, has the gall to say just about anything, even when facts and data easily prove him wrong.
The increase in manufacturing jobs not only did not begin with Trump, but are also not at all increasing at any significantly higher rate today than they have for the past eight years. That isn’t only because of Trump and his tariff policies, it’s also because automation is replacing the workers for those jobs.
In the 1950s, auto manufacturers were the largest employers in the United States. Today, it’s Wal-Mart.
Trump can pretend all he likes that he’s done something astounding for the American economy and the working class, but the numbers simply don’t support those statements.
The sight of a man who was laughed at during the UN Council meetings talking about making America respected again is just the icing on the cake in the irony category, as well.
